Soup Nights 4 brings together four Perth artists at the intersection of electronic, ambient, and experimental music practice. They represent a growing interest in deconstructing the tropes and techniques of dance and pop music, smearing and embroidering them into fascinating forms and gestures. This month is curated by experimental electro-acoustic artist Michael Terren. Sophia Lewis’ profound soundscapes explore emotional affects through lush synthesised textures. Ortanique (Peter McAvan)’s work evokes jagged and impressionistic topographies of percussion and noise. Tu Hüs (Soph Kruse) deploys modular synthesisers to devastating effect with sturdy techno heat. And in a performance sure to confuse and provoke, Michael Terren will debut a project exploring the themes and conventions around adult contemporary and easy listening music.
We wish to acknowledge that this concert takes place in the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.
