Studio Underground, State Theatre Centre of WA
Percussion, clarinet, electronics and piano.
Simulacra by Intercurrent explores a world of musical doubles; real, imagined and imperfect. Centred around the twisting parallels of Philip Glass’s iconic Music in Similar Motion, the program includes recent works from local and international composers. Julian Day’s Father, arranged for Intercurrent, centres on a slow-motion hymn-like organ phrase that continually descends until it dissipates. Ripples of sound peel out from the opening of Hannah Lash’s C, a brief yet electrifying duo for vibraphone and piano. Chris Tonkin’s Entr’acte centres the bass clarinet within a swirling world of video and electronic sounds, while emerging talent Alex Turley turns his evocative language to Intercurrent’s unique sonic formation of bass clarinet, percussion and piano.
