Tura New Music presents
2013 Remote Artist in Residence Program
Djarindjin/Lombadina, One Arm Point, Broome, Western Australia
12 – 26 June 2013
Tura New Music is presenting its fourth annual Remote Artist in Residence Program with internationally renowned music educator Gillian Howell. This follows the successful 2010 Residency in the communities of the Dampier Peninsula, the 2011 Residency in Warmun and the 2012 Residency in Kununurra region.
Tura New Music will bring Melbourne-born Gillian Howell, an experienced creative director of music collaborations and compositions, to the Dampier Peninsula for two weeks in June 2013. Gillian works in diverse settings – from arts organisations to schools and community groups – to create unique performance pieces, installations and experiences.
“I’m thrilled to be invited to come to this part of the world to share music and ideas. It’s fantastic that Tura New Music provides opportunities for creative exchanges between remote communities and city – based musicians and composers like myself.” Gillian Howell
Based in Djarindjin/Lombadina and One Arm Point on the Dampier Peninsula, Gillian will work with groups of school children and the community at large to explore music making and guide them in devising and performing their own music composition. Taking people of all backgrounds and skill levels on an extraordinary musical journey, Gillian aims to provide a profound sense of connection through music. The Residency program commences with a one-day workshop in Broome.
