This show highlights a classically-trained pianist who sings, narrates, hums, whistles, mumbles, hits and rubs her way through an intimate, theatrical show – From Me To You

Lisa Moore comments on her program: “The Metamorphosis piano series reveals the classic organic and fundamental Philip Glass sound and flow. While the title was inspired by the 1915 Franz Kafka short story, the Metamorphosis I theme was used in The Thin Blue Line – a gangster film by Errol Morris; Brooklyn composer Ted Hearne’s Intimacy and Resistance is a poignant song (with text by poet Allison Carter) about reality, inevitability and moving on. Little Room is a new creation by the young Australian composer William Gardiner (with my own adapted text) – it’s about identity and Irish-Australian roots; Ishi was the last American Indian of his Yahi-Yani tribe – he walked out of the northwest to Berkeley CA and was nurtured by anthropologists until his passing. Ishi’s Song is based on the Maidu Doctor’s Song, a medical healing piece adapted by Martin Bresnick. It reflects our basic sense that we are all the last of our own tribes; Australian Brett Dean’s Equality and Prayer indignantly and respectively shout and pray cartoonist Michael Leunig’s words about the outrageous and the oddly-paired. Frederic Rzewski’s De Profundis exposes Oscar Wilde’s 1895 inner anguish from a prison cell while doing time for being himself. And last, but not least, a household favorite wraps things up – Randy Newman’s enigmatic song of depressed-optimism I Think It’s Going To Rain Today. Described by the New York Times as “lustrous at the keyboard, and at once engaging and challenging, pianist Lisa Moore has moved audiences across the globe with her powerful and sensitive performances. Lisa’s performances combine music and theatre with expressive and emotional power. Crowned “New York’s queen of avant-garde piano” and “visionary” in The New Yorker, this Australian virtuoso has performed with a large and diverse range of musicians and artists including the London Sinfonietta, New York City Ballet, Bargemusic, ExhAust, Howl, So Percussion, Le Train Blue, Eighth Blackbird and the New York League of Composers.

Lisa moved to New York in 1985. From 1992-2008 she was the founding pianist for the Bang On A Can All-Stars the New York electro-acoustic sextet and winner of Musical America’s 2005 Ensemble of the Year Award. Lisa has released 7 solo recordings and over 30 collaborative recordings, with two new solo recordings soon to be released Orange Mountain Music (solo music by Philip Glass) and Cantaloupe (solo music by Martin Bresnick, Phil Kline, John Luther Adams, Missy Mazzoli and Julia Wolfe).
