On the second Monday of every month, Tura New Music’s iMprov series presents experimental and exploratory improvisation at the Four5Nine bar at the Rosemount Hotel.
February’s lineup features three extraordinary band projects. Ellipsis, Berlin-based trio of Denmark drummer Christian Windfeld and Melbourne-born musicians Jon Heilbron & Andy Butler, join us as part of their tour of Australia, presenting sprawling weavings of fragile textures and crystal-clear melodies. Joining them will be Original Past Life in noise-jazz-improv-mode, pushing the boundaries of the free textures explored on their album The Times of Ceylon. Alana MacPherson’s new project ‘Human Contact’ will tie up the line-up with a loose assemblage of melodic horns and an angular-yet-driving rhythm section.
ELLIPSIS – Jon Heilbron (bass), Andy Butler (harmonium), Christian Windfeld (drums)
HUMAN CONTACT – Alana MacPherson (saxophone), Dylan Hooper (saxophone), Zac Grafton (bass), Talya Valenti (drums)
ORIGINAL PAST LIFE – Adam Trainer (bass, electronics) Warwick Hall (guitar, electronics), Mike Caratti (drums)
