Performing on solo drum kit, Will Guthrie’s playing is truly virtuosic. His return to Perth, on his way to MONA FOMA, will see him ignite the 459 Bar with jagged rhythms and minimally unfolding patterns formed through taking extreme discipline to its breaking point.
Guthrie will be joined by local sound artist Michael Terren, working with his unique combinations of field recordings and digital synthesis to create microscopically detailed sound worlds, and improvising vocalist Sage Pbbbt, who channels a practice of throat singing, sound poetry and vocal extension from their own multi-faceted explorations of gender, shamanism, meditation, trance, Discordianism and beyond.
Will Guthrie is an Australian drummer / percussionist living in Nantes, France. He works in many different settings of music: live performance, improvisation and studio composition using various combinations of drums, percussion, objects, junk, amplification and electronics. He studied jazz and improvised music(s) at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia and alongside Ren Walters he started the weekly concert series ‘Improvised Tuesdays’, now known as the Make It Up Club and is Australia’s longest running performance space dedicated to experimental and improvised musics.
