William Forsythe is one of the world’s most visionary choreographers. His practice extends from dance through to architecture, visual arts, and installation. Improvising trio Orphans move fluidly between a range of disparate influences, taking cue from new music, jazz and post-rock, and merging them in a compelling amalgam that is thoroughly unique. Comprised of trumpeter Dan O’Connor, percussionist BeHn Stacy and guitarist Dom Barrett, the trio formed whilst all members were studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016) was a pioneer figure in experimental music whose work embraced electronics, the exploration of spaces for their acoustic properties and the use of meditation practices in improvisation. The Witness (1980) establishes changing relationships among the players, going from individual to collective actions within a sound continuum. Featuring Zoe Kilbourne on soprano saxophone, Dan O’Connor on trumpet, Sage Pbbbt on vocals and Eduardo Cossio on guitar.
