Arrivals by Zephyr Quartet at the WA Maritime Museum

Supported by Tura and Western Australian Museum, Zephyr Quartet, a bold and
adventurous string quartet, performs Arrivals at the WA Maritime Museum, Sunday 13 November.

Australia is very much a nation of ‘boat people’, past and present. With Arrivals, Zephyr Quartet explores notions of migration to Australia by boat through music, and with it the trials, obstacles, struggles and successes present in our history.

Zephyr Quartet is Belinda Gehlert (violin), Emily Tulloch (violin), Jason Thomas (viola) and Hilary Kleinig (cello). They’re described as ‘Arguably Australia’s most lateral thinking and inventive ensemble’ by Music Australia.

The performance features a program of Australian works covering a range of historical perspectives, including compositions by Paul Stanhope, Kate Moore, Zephyr Quartet members – Hilary Kleinig, Emily Tulloch & Jason Thomas – as well as a new collaborative work with electronic artist Motez, all expressing the oceanic journey to Australia.

Arrivals celebrates the incredible courage and great hope that the people who have traveled to our country have shown and also the immense contribution that they have made to our nation.

Arrivals performs at the Western Australian Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay, Fremantle, November 13, 6:30pm. Limited capacity, advance bookings are recommended.
