A new era for New Music
The Tura Events Company (now operating as Tura New Music) evolved out of Evos Music in 1996. In more that fifteen celebrated years of operation, Tura has won national awards and international praise for the presentation and promotion of New Music.
Tura New Music launched their corporate & creative identity on 27 November 2003, representing the beginning of a new era for New Music in Western Australia.
The launch reinforces the multi-faceted identity of Tura New Music as not only a producer of events, but also as a resource agency, promoter, and advocacy / support network for Western Australian New Music artists and audiences.
Much of Tura New Music's work has been recognised as invaluable to the development of New Music in Perth and nationally, with funding from both the Federal and State arts funding bodies. Through the provision of a multi-year grant from ArtsWA and an annual grant from the Australia Council, Tura New Music's 2003 - 2005 funded program will ensure the availability of resources for project management, administration and technical staff to operate the company on an annual basis.
Launched by the Minister for Culture & the Arts, Sheila McHale, the Tura New Music Metro Launch was an evening of stunning performance, avant-garde catering and informative overview of the company's recent period of consolidation and planning.
Artistic Director, Tos Mahoney, launched the "Tura New Music" brand, identity and vision and announced the strategic re-development of both the Totally Huge New Music Festival and In the Outback regional series to biennial events.
Within the setting of the new Hudson Gallery, guests were also given a sneak preview of the major roles Tura New Music will play in the UWA Perth International Arts Festival and the Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth (BEAP) in 2004 and beyond.
The Metro Launch of Tura New Music will be followed by a Regional Launch in Broome in February 2004, corresponding with Tura New Music's collaboration with The UWA Perth International Arts Festival.
This prioritisation of the regional as well as Perth-based presence emphasises Tura New Music's ongoing and increased commitment to regional Western Australia, following the successes of the In the Outback series.
