During his residency at The International Art Space Kellerberrin Nigel will develop a sound-sculpture project that investigates the history of radiophonic listening and other early forms of tele-communication within the Kellerberrin community. The work will create an “audio-portrait” woven from the patterns of listening and communication in the pre-digital era.
The project will develop develop an oral history that captures community experiences of listening to radio. This will take place as a series of recorded interviews, discussions and perhaps even musical recollections that recall radio events from the past and the patterns of when, where and how people listened to radio in their homes, or used radio communication in the workplace.
In addition to a gallery installation comprising a ten channel FM radio network, the project will establish a mini-FM local radio station that will automatically broadcast local content to the township.
Exhibition: 4th December 12th February 2006
Exhibition opens: Saturday 3rd December 2005.
