John Adams Short Ride in a Fast Machine

Short Ride in a Fast Machine is a joyfully exuberant piece, brilliantly scored for a large orchestra. WASO runs the gauntlet through this explosive rhythmic fanfare with its abundance of activity – all in the space of four minutes!

John Adams Tromba Lontana

Tromba lontana (‘distant trumpet’) provides a stark contrast to Short Ride in a Fast Machine with its pulsing continuum of serenely ticking pianos, harps and percussion – all as a precursor to a elegantly subdued fanfare.

James Ledger Trumpet Concerto

In 2007, WASO applauds the connection between some of the country’s finest composers and most celebrated performers with The Concerto Project. West Australian composer James Ledger has written his Trumpet Concerto with the distinctive talents of WASO Principal trumpet David Elton in mind. This World Premiere is a tribute to the special rapport between the creative imagination of the composer and the virtuosic skill of the performer.

Also on the program are Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No.2 and Janacek’s Sinfonietta.
