Dave Brown (Melb)
Dave Brown
Dave Brown – in his ‘candlesnuffer’ guise – meshes mind and fingers alike as he accompanies a group of his own improvisations on an eclectic range of prepared instruments. Dave’s meticulously prepared electro-acoustic guitar is plucked, scraped and rubbed – creating a series of dynamic, mysterious duos that give the impression of one cohesive meta-instrument.

Robin Fox (Melb)
Robin Fox will be performing his audio controlled laser system which represents the 3 dimensional extension of his synaesthetic ‘backscatter’ films for oscilloscope. In this manifestation, the audio determines the movement of laser light forging an intimate connection between raw electronic signal in both audible and visible terms. Patterns and 3 dimensional architectures in light are created, transformed, and dismembered.
Philip Brophy’s Beautiful Cyborg 2
Still from Beautiful Cyborg 2
Beautiful Cyborg 2 celebrates the visual themes typical of hardcore Japanese Sci-Fi and cyberpunk anime – sensuous metals, delicate super-conductors, contemplative gears, penile foreheads, delicious motor mechanics, dimensional speed, transfigured space and sculptured visages. Add a heady mix of musical motifs, textural sheets, pulsating rhythms and unearthly sounds that float throughout the space and you’ll find yourself lost in a hovering, shimmering and soaring quadraphonic sound field.
More than just a techno-fest of aliens, cyborgs, robots, androids, re-designed humans and hi-tech mechanica, Beautiful Cyborg 2 stabs at the beating heart of Japanese audio-vision to uncover what Brophy calls ‘the psycho-acoustic world turned inside-out’ (Real Time No.32, 1999).
Devised by Philip Brophy, Beautiful Cyborg 2 features six portraits of famous anime characters compiled and edited by Cassandra Tytler, accompanied by live performance.
This event is presented in association with Artrage
