memegraphy
Imagine: groups playing at the same time, in the same piece.
After successful initial experiments, the memegraphy project launches its first large-scale collaborative recording project with a call for musicians from all backgrounds and styles to participate.
Memegraphy is a WA experimental music project. Our mission is to produce a series of recordings that collaborate across bands, artists and composers. We will layer jazz ensembles with hardcore bands and a capella choirs, mix percussion sections with noise artists and folk singers. We will spur bands up against each other in the same aural space.
We announce the release of the first memegraphy production, demo: coherence. This has been our first experiment in collaborative composition. The goal was simple -- to make three groups cohere into a single piece. Three Perth bands have merged through this single recording: String Theory, Fall Electric and Radarmaker.
Call For Musicians
We are now seeking expressions of interest from all original WA musicmakers for our next endeavour, an enormous-scale collaborative recording.
Massively Parallel aims to create a piece from the work of a huge number of musicmakers: a cross-section of 20-40 groups, bands, ensembles and producers from Perth’s diverse music scenes.
Each group will contribute one ambient texture: a simple expression of their sound.
Interested? If your group is recording in studio between July and December 2006, we seek 20 minutes of your time (for which you will be paid). If you are an electronic artist, you can contribute outside of the studio.
