founded in 1997, tura new music is recognised both nationally and internationally as one of australia’s peak bodies for the production and presentation of new music events, as well as a resource agency, promoter and a support network for western australian new music artists. tura is the recipient of the 2008 apra|amcos classical music award for outstanding contribution by an organisation, for the biennial totally huge new music festival and conference and its regional and remote touring programs.

the australian art orchestra uses its skills in improvisation to work the rich ground that lies between the jazz and classical traditions and between western and non-western music. the driving idea behind the aao is that music is a language which establishes and builds connections between people, whether as individuals societies, cultures or nations. since 1994 the aao has boldly championed its belief that the role of the improvising musician, both as creator and interpreter of new music, has returned to the heart of any discussion surrounding current and future directions in concert music.
