Jonathan Mustard

As part of Twitch, Tick Jonathan Mustard will present a number of new solo works that use manipulation to treat video and musical instruments in a similar fashion to sound sampling, sometimes with hilarious consequences. Mustard plays flute, sax or midi keyboard to manipulate pre-recorded video samples that respond to his performance. Among the works to be performed are Paid to Walk, a homage to Lindsay Vickery on the occasion of his 40th birthday that uses similar structural techniques To Vickery’s ‘cypher’ music, Fragile Playground a duet For virtual glasses and a real flute and Jam TV for midi keyboard, that fires off an enormous battery of video’ed instruments played by the composer.

Ross Bolleter

The five voices of the Phoenix for reader with accordions - text by Rimbaud (world premiere) is a sound/colour/music piece, which explores synaesthesia, and has its roots in Rimbaud’s alchimie du verbe - the colour of vowels. Ross Bolleter, famed for his works for and from ruined piano, has a long history with accordion composition and performance from childhood lessons with Guido de Sondrio to avant garde performances in eastern Slovakia.

Desert Air

Ross Bolleter (accordion) is joined by long term collaborator and Tura Artistic Director Tos Mahoney (flute) for a presentation of their ubiquitous improvisatory compositions including Windmills in a sea of sand and Dusk in Ulan Bator.
