MEL ROBINSON, SOPHIE MOLETTA, IVAN BANNON

MARCH 18 2002

Mel Robinson

Melanie Robinson has been writing playing singing whistling and making music for many years now. Focussed mainly on the cello anc electro-acoustical merging, Melanie is, amonsgst other things, a member of underground bands Gata Negra and myrtle. She is currently working as musical director for "acoustic maps", as part of the Perth fringe festival. Collaborations within the worlds of theatre, dance, music and noise have produced a unique sound in Melanie's rendition of Australian works as well as in her own more spacious music combining, cello, voice and filter. She has recently returned from a European tour.

Mel's set for this Club Zho consits of several new pieces, all of which are a mix of acoustic and electronic mediums, carried by voices and the cello. As well as playing some solo works, she will also be playing with Sophie Moletta to use two voices, cello, keys and filters in a rich blending of layers and moments of space.

Sophie Moletta

Sophie's music has been described in many ways. Many have drawn comparisons with Laurie Anderson, Sinead O'Connor and Kate Bush, but her singing and song writing remain truly unique, mesmerising and from the very depths of her heart and soul. Sophie continues to work with the mystery of life through music...

At Zho Sophie will preview songs from her third album to be released in 2002.

"I've been working for a number of years with various surrealist poets, from Paul Eluard, Appollianaire through to contemporary unknowns (i.e. Jean-Benoit Levy), using their text with my voice and music."

Ivan Bannon

a "P"/ a mount of proken palanquins / four sleepy men is a work on auditory scents and visual glances sideways. What's the amusement? Hold your breath or hold your hand as you go down to taste yourself sham soaked in bubbles of echo.

Lights flash, music plays and sometimes a video runs on a tiny television. Ivan Bannon is a conniving tinkerer, constructing environments that you can climb into, sleep in, emit smoke or simply produce ambient noise.
