About Tura New Music

The purpose of Tura New Music is to provide vital support to emerging and accomplished New Music composers, performers, organisations and audiences through the production, presentation and promotion of New Music events, and through establishing and maintaining a New Music Resource Centre as a focal point for information and advocacy.

Tura New Music actively encourages music innovation, research and development and provides real opportunities for Western Australian New Music practitioners.

Tura New Music aims to create a sustainable and diverse program of operations and events, providing entertaining, educational and cultural activities that enrich the lives of Western Australians and lovers of New Music around the world.

Tura New Music is committed to maintaining its status as a pre-eminent New Music organisation in Australia and internationally by offering a full range of performances, services and support to Western Australian artists and audiences to project and extend the world-standard reputation of Western Australian arts.

To support, promote and present fine new art music and provide a Resource Centre facilitating the promotion of New Music in Western Australia to local and international artists and audiences.

What is New Music?

New Music - from compositions of contemporary orchestral works to the latest in computer-generated music - is created by composers living and practicing today in a variety of genres and forms, all sharing the common theme that they rigorously explore new ground in their particular field of creativity, exposing audiences to new possibilities in music and sound.

Tura Receives Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music Award

On Monday the 7th August 2006, The Australian music celebrated the success of this year’s most outstanding Australian contemporary classical music achievements at the 2006 Classical Music Awards presented by APRA and the Australian Music Centre.

Western Australian Tura New Music was the proud winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music in a Regional Area category for the “Voices Over WA” project. Voices over WA featured The Song Company presenting concerts and workshops throughout the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in May 2005.

This prestigious award acknowledges the considerable commitment Tura has to regional Western Australia including projects such as Violins in the Outback, Gavin Bryars in Broome and the soon to be launched Ruined Piano Sanctuary in York.
